I-70 ramp repairs will trigger Rostraver nighttime detours

They will begin today in the area where the interstate connects with Route 201.

Nighttime ramp closures and detours will affect westbound drivers on Interstate 70 at the Fayette City (Route 201) exit beginning today in Rostraver Township.

A series of overnight closures, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. will allow contractor Golden Triangle Construction to patch concrete pavement, make drainage repairs and replace barriers on the off-ramp and onramp connecting the westbound lanes of the interstate with Route 201.

Depending on weather conditions, the work is expected to conclude Thursday.

During the closures, motorists who were planning to exit from I-70 westbound onto Route 201 instead will have to continue farther west, to exit and reverse direction at the Belle Vernon/ Monessen interchange with Route 906. They then will return on the interstate to use the eastbound Fayette City exit.

Those entering the interstate from Route 201 and intending to travel west instead will take the entrance ramp to eastbound I-70. They’ll get off at the Smithton exit, onto Fitz Henry Road, then reserve course and re-enter the westbound lanes of the interstate.

Work on the ramps is part of a larger PennDOT project that is slated to preserve pavement along I-70 between the Route 906 interchange and the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway. Overall repairs are expected to continue into late fall. The project cost is nearly $9.7 million.

Meanwhile, PennDOT is also planning this work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning Monday.

Road surface improvements will take place on:

• Route 819 in Mt. Pleasant and Hempfield townships.

• Skidmore and Brinkerton roads in Hempfield.

• Armbrust-Hecla Road in Mt. Pleasant Township.

• Mechanized patching will take place on Route 130 in Cook.

• Edge paving will take place on Waltz Mill Road in South Huntingdon and Sewickley townships.

• A slide repair, with a single-lane restriction, will continue on Donohoe Road in Hempfield.

• A swale will be cleaned on Lockport Road in Fairfield.

• Pipes will be replaced on Route 982 in Unity and on Pandora Road in Derry Township.

• Pipe installations will take place on Wilpen Road in Ligonier Township and on Laughner Road in Fairfield.

• Ditching will take place on Route 201 (Rostraver Road) in Rostraver and Catalina Farm Road in East Huntingdon.

• Shoulder cutting will take place on various routes in Penn, Hempfield and North Huntingdon townships.
