Pa. American Water to host public tours of McKeesport wastewater treatment plant
For the MVI
Pennsylvania American Water has extended an invitation to customers to tour its McKeesport Wastewater Treatment Plant, 100 Atlantic Ave, McKeesport, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Participants will learn more about a recent $18.5 million investment made at the wastewater system and what happens to water after it leaves their home and goes through the treatment process. Customers will also have the opportunity to talk with Pennsylvania American Water’s local management team and wastewater treatment professionals and ask questions about the service they receive.
“Our McKeesport team treats approximately 13 million gallons of wastewater each day,” said Pennsylvania American Water Operations Superintendent Chuck Schultz. “This open house will provide our customers with a unique opportunity to learn more about the wastewater treatment process and meet the professionals who make it happen 24/7.”
Visitors will be offered guided outdoor tours at this rain-or-shine, no-cost event.
The open house will also feature a touch-a-truck display, face painting, interactive watershed displays and refreshments.
Those who plan to attend should wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and long pants. Large bags and personal items should be left in secured vehicles. Attendees will be asked to sign in at the gate, and a parent or guardian must accompany and be responsible for children younger than 18.
