Hits & Misses

Congratulations and a heartfelt thanks to Monessen resident and proud U.S. Air Force veteran Ron Chromulak, whose dogged determination and relentless efforts helped him raise more than $16,000 needed to refurbish the World War II tank at Monessen’s City Park. When he started his campaign to raise money for the rusting tank, the American Legion Post 28 commander and chairman of the Monessen War Veterans Memorial Trust was told his mission was a “lost cause.” Never one to back down from a challenge, the Vietnam war veteran raised what was needed, including a $10,000 donation from Gabe Hudock, president and CEO of Alumicore, which helped exceed the $16,510 fundraising goal. Local residents, business members, his classmates and strangers pitched in as well.
