Donora council reviews bids for renovations to borough building

The bids will be studied before a vote is taken at the Oct. 10 meeting.

Donora council held a special meeting Tuesday to discuss bids for an exterior project on the borough building.

Members reviewed bids from three potential companies. Council opted to take more time to review the bids rather than voting Tuesday evening.

Project manager Ken Kulak will review the bids and make recommendations to council. A final vote is expected at the Oct. 10 meeting.

“He has to look at the contract to make sure that they’re bidding on exactly our specifications,” council President Cindy Brice said. “So far the lowest bid was $130,000, so that would probably be the one.”

The companies submitted bids for a larger renovation project and a different amount for just cleaning of the borough building. Brice said council will most likely go for the lowest bid as long as it meets all their criteria.

The bids submitted are:

• Air Tite Company of Pittsburgh will do a lump sum base bid coating for $130,525 and a cleaning for $50,525.

• ARS Inc. of Harmony will do a lump sum base bid coating for $187,000 and a cleaning for $84,000.

• Allegheny Restoration Inc. of Greensburg will do a lump sum base bid coating for $186,000 and a cleaning for $77,000.00 “They’ll clean it, they’ll re-caulk all the squares, and then plus most of this stonework out there is riveted to the building, so they all have to be redone,” Brice said. “Then they’ll put a coating on it and that’s the plan.”

Brice said the council members are excited for the renovations and they’re already working on some other projects inside the building.

This project will focus on the outside of the building, but Brice said they’re working to get new carpeting and renovate some of the bathrooms.
