Elizabeth Forward girls wrap up section golf title

The Elizabeth Forward girls golf team wrapped up the Section 3-3A title with a win over Penn-Trafford at Manor Valley Thursday.

Leading the way for the Warriors (14-1, 11-1) was Mya Morgan. Morgan led all scorers from both teams with a 1-over par 37.

The win sets a new program record for best record.

The Warriors’ Sydney Boyd shot a 44 and Annalise Didjunas and Alizabeth Leezer finished at 48 and 49.

Looking best for Penn-Trafford was Isabella Fontana with a 47.

Boys Serra Catholic 235, South Allegheny 242

Josh Nesky picked up another medalist honor for the Gladiators, but Serra Catholic and Kody Kraeuter got the team win in a Section 7-2A match at Youghigheny Country Club Thursday.

Nesky bested the Eagles’ top golfer – Kraeuter – by a single stroke, finishing with a 39 to lead South Allegheny.

Noah Cortes chipped in with a 44 for the Glads.

Kraeuter shot a 40 and Gino Emanuel finished with a 43 for the Eagles.

Soccer Boys Thomas Jefferson 10, McKeesport 0 The Jaguars rolled to a Section 2-3A win over the Tigers Thursday behind hat tricks from Brayden Miller and Jake Shoemaker.

Evan Olson added a brace for Thomas Jefferson (5-0-3, 4-0-3) and single goals from Taveon Coleman and Tyler Schrello.

The Jaguars are back in action Tuesday at home against Laurel Highlands. The Tigers will travel to Trinity.

Elizabeth Forward 3, Seton LaSalle 1

The Warriors remain tied for first place in Section 3-2A with a twogoal win over the Rebels (6-3, 5-2) on the road.

Aidan Davis, Carson Ruffing and Dom Cavalier each scored goals for the Warriors. Davis and Levi George each added an assist.

Getting the win in goal for Elizabeth Forward (7-2-1, 6-0-1) was Matt Johnston.

The Warriors are at South Allegheny Tuesday.

West Mifflin 1, Uniontown 0

Bryson Kincaid found the back of the net in the opening overtime period to give the Titans (2-5, 2-4) a thrilling win over visiting Uniontown (1-6, 0-6) Thursday.

Hayden Craycraft picked up the clean sheet and got the win in goal for West Mifflin.

The Titans will host Latrobe for a section game Tuesday.

South Allegheny 2, Steel Valley 1 (OT)

Eli Noel scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Gladiators (3-6, 2-4) over the Ironmen (2-6, 2-5) in Section 3-2A.

Brayden Hernandez scored the opening goal to send the Gladiators into the half with a 1-0 lead.

Kaden Gatchie and Caleb Jackowski each added assists for South Allegheny.

The Gladiators will host Elizabeth Forward Tuesday at home.

Carlynton 3, Serra Catholic 2

The Eagles (2-8, 2-3) suffered a close loss to Carlynton (7-3, 4-1) at The Nest Thursday in Section 3-1A action.

Brayden Graham tallied a firsthalf goal for the Eagles off a feed from Luke Perez. The Eagles got a free-kick goal from Caden Bauer in the second half.

Nate Loughner made 10 saves in goal in the losing effort.

Serra Catholic will be back in section play Tuesday at home against Trinity Christian.

Penn-Trafford 6, Belle Vernon 2

The Leopards (3-5, 1-5) watched their losing streak hit five in a row after Thursday’s loss to the Warriors (4-3-1, 3-2-1).

JJ Porter and Yuriy Bidochko scored two goals apiece for Penn-Trafford.

BVA hosts Ringgold Monday in non-section play.

Girls Ellis School 7, South Allegheny 1

The Gladiators (3-7) took one on the chin against the Tigers (4-4) in non-section soccer action.

No other information was reported on the game.

The Gladiators return home Tuesday for a non-section game against West Mifflin at 6 p.m.

Hempfield 4, Belle Vernon 0

Jianna Patterson had two goals and two assists and Jessi Jury collected two goals and an assist to power Hempfield (3-6) to a nonsection win over Belle Vernon (5-6).

The Leopards start the second half of section play Monday on the road at Steel Valley.

Volleyball Frazier 3, Trinity Christian 0

The Commodores composed themselves late in the second set to pull out a win, and cruised in the third to sweep the Falcons in a Section 4-1A match at DiVirgilio Field House.

Addison Schultz (11) and Allie Monack (10) combined for 21 kills to lead the Commodores (6-2, 4-0).

Game scores werer 25-14, 26-24, 25-16.

Gracen Hartman dished out 35 assists and had nine service points for Frazier. Addison Hiles had 11 digs and Maddy Salisbury had 11 service points.

Schultz and Mia West each finished with four blocks at the net.

The Commodores are back home Monday against Waynesburg in a non-section match.
