Late fees on sanitation bills to rise in October

The cost will be $325 for anyone who doesn’t submit payment before then.

Rostraver Township residents who haven’t paid their sanitation bills yet will see an increase in late fees if they don’t submit payment by the end of September.

Commissioner Gary Beck outlined the increase at Monday’s meeting.

“As of Oct. 1, all unpaid garbage bills, for both seniors and non-seniors, will be increased to $325,” Beck said. “That is until Dec. 31. So if you know anyone who has not paid, I’d strongly suggest that they get their bills paid.”

Sanitation rates in the township are $230 per year (or $210 for residents 65 and older) if paid by March 31. That increases to $250 and $220 by the end of June and $275 and $230 by Sept. 30.

The rate will be $325 for everyone who pays Oct. 1 or later, and any bills still unpaid Dec. 31 will be turned over the magistrate.

Also Monday, commissioners amended the township’s zoning ordinance by adding supplementary regulations for fencing and hedges. Solicitor Joseph Dalfonso explained the specifications prior to the vote.

“It is a text amendment regarding fences and hedges in the business and industrial districts,” he said. “It regulates fence height by the zoning district instead of use.”

Commissioners also:

• Voted to seek a Local Share Account grant to purchase vehicles for the police department for $152,272. 62.

• Approved a motion to submit the Pricedale paving project as its first priority to the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development to be considered for a Community Development Block Grant.

• Authorized a $27,550 payment to Outdoor Living Solutions, LLC for the municipal sidewalk project contract, the majority of which will be funded through an LSA grant.

• Approved the purchase of a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado for the police department from Tri-Star Chevrolet for $53,973 and upfit costs of $31,027. The purchase will be financed with a threeyear lease through Laurel Mountain Leasing and Financing Services – 911 Leasing.
