BVA superintendent releases statement on threats to district

Timothy Glasspool assured parents that the safety of students is the top priority.

Belle Vernon Area School District Superintendent Timothy Glasspool released a statement Thursday regarding recent threats to district schools.

A string of threats have recently targeted BVA and other districts in the region.

“While these situations are unsettling, please rest assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remains a top priority,” Glasspool said. “These types of anonymous and cowardly threats can understandably cause concern. We want to reassure you that our staff is trained to handle emergency situations, and we are prepared to take the necessary actions to keep our students, staff and visitors safe.”

Glasspool said the district has a long list of available resources and plans in the event a threat is considered serious.

In the statement, Glasspool provided a link to the district’s emergency operations plan, which includes protocols that could go into effect during a crisis. The plans include how to talk to students about trauma and violence.

The plans include protocols in case of an armed intruder, cyber attacks, bomb threats and more.

“Please talk to your children about the importance of staying calm and following school safety protocols, and remind them that their teachers and school staff are always here to help,” Glasspool said. “Thank you for your trust and partnership as we work together to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all.”
