BVA bounces back to shut out Ringgold

By JEREMY SELLEW

Ava Scalise scored a pair of firsthalf goals to lead the Belle Vernon girls over Ringgold in a rivalry match in Section 1-2A play.

Grace West added a third goal on a direct kick for Belle Vernon as it rebounded from a tough loss to Bentworth Tuesday.

Abby Russell added a pair of assists on both Scalise goals for BVA (3-3, 2-1).

The game may have been costly for Belle Vernon, though, as Scalise went down with an ankle injury just over midway through the second half.

“We bounced back and came out and controlled the game. Most importantly, we were able to finish at the goal,” BVA head coach Tracy Lovett said. “Ava Scalise stood out and Sammy Mincone was able to shut down their scoring threat. All of our defenders played well.”

Wednesday’s game was Mincone’s first after she missed two games due to injury.
