• Another historic building was slated for the wrecking ball in Charleroi. The former Columbus Hotel at the corner of McKean Avenue and Third Street was empty for a number of years and in disrepair. Charleroi Borough Manager Donn Henderson said, “There’s a lot of history there, no doubt about it. It was operated as a hotel under various names for many years.” The building is currently owned by a New Jersey firm and has been listed for sale for the last few years. The $8,000 cost of demolishing the building will be covered by the state Community Block Grant funds.
