Fayette County announces LSA grant recipients
The winners include four projects from the Mon Valley.
Several Mon Valley communities in Fayette County received Local Share Account grants at a recent ceremony hosted by the Fayette County Board of Commissioners.
Commissioners selected 19 projects that will receive $588,896 in total funding.
Local projects and organizations included in that group are:
• Perryopolis athletic field renovations.
• Washington Township traffic safety improvements.
• One Voice One Community At-Risk Youth OST programming.
• Fayette County Association for the Blind equipment upgrades.
Commissioner Vince Vicites said the LSA grant is a great way to give back to the community.
“All of the classes of LSA funding recipients have been special. Each grant application has had a unique approach to community development with good ideas on how to improve their communities,” Vicites said. “The LSA program is beneficial to Fayette County because it has invested more than $6 million back into our communities and helped make the county a better place to live.”
The LSA grant is funded by gaming revenues from Nemacolin’s Lady Luck Casino in Wharton Township.
Nonprofits, community organizations and Fayette County municipalities are eligible to apply for the grant and are encouraged to apply for multiple years.
Since the creation of the Local Share Account program, it has awarded more than $6.1 million to 165 different applicants.
Commissioners selected the recipients and submitted their projects to the Department of Community and Economic Development, which will also disperse the funding.
“LSA grant recipients are right here at home, in your community, in the organizations serving your community. They’re receiving funding to complete projects that directly impact the community, and, ultimately, it’s the people of Fayette County, those who live and work here, who benefit,” Commissioner Dave Lohr said.
