PAGES OF THE PAST

2004

• Families in the Perryopolis area will receive some letters and postcards a little late this week but the U.S. Postal Service isn’t to blame. Those late letters have been buried underground for decades. The letters come from a “Send Letters to the Future” project sponsored by the former Perryopolis Historical Society to celebrate the nations bicentennial in 1976. Families were charged a nominal fee to participate in the program to send letters to their future selves to be opened at Perryopolis’s own bicentennial celebration. In addition to the letters, the time capsule contains newspapers, record books and other memorabilia collected in 1976.
