Ceremony honors memory of S.S. McKeesport

Eighty-one years after a German torpedo sent her to a watery grave, a group of veterans, local dignitaries and others gathered Monday along the Youghiogheny River to remember the S.S. McKeesport and honor the bravery of her crew. The city’s namesake was sunk in 1943 during the Battle of the Atlantic while delivering much-needed supplies to Europe during World War II. Monday’s event was organized by the City of McKeesport veterans committee.
