Vicki Joann Sowers Lyons – Monongahela and McKeesport

On April 3, 2024, our dear sister, Vicki Joann Sowers Lyons, formerly of Monongahela and McKeesport, passed away and is now with our Lord and Savior, our parents and grandparents. Vicki was born in New Eagle on Nov. 11, 1952. She graduated from Hazelwood High School in Hazelwood, Mo., and received her bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, graduating summa cum laude. Vicki began her career at the McCrory’s store and Combustion Engineering Company in Monongahela. She advanced to Kopper’s Industries in Pittsburgh and ended her career at Schneider Downs Company in Pittsburgh, retiring in November 2020. Vicki loved her horse, Quest, and her various dogs and cats during her lifetime. She participated in Horseback Riding for the Handicapped and PPTG (People and Pets Together Under God) for many years. She enjoyed going to her nephews’ soccer games and cheering them on. She enjoyed her favorite restaurants, The Back Porch and Century Inn, on special occasions while getting together with family and friends. She was an accomplished pianist. Vicki is preceded in death by her parents, Norvelle James and Lavonne Gertrude Sowers; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Mildred Crookham; paternal grandparents, Norvelle V. and Iva Sowers; and uncles and aunts, Harry and Jessie Crookham and Garrett and Cozie Lewellyn. Vicki is survived by her sisters, Jeri (Paul) King of Monongahela; Penni (Michael) Cooper of Norton, Ohio; Donna (Tracy) Ames of Fallowfield Township; niece, Ann King of La Jolla, Calif.; nephews, William (Abbe) King of Allen, Texas, Samuel Ames of Monroeville, Pa., and Zachary Ames of Washington, Pa.; great-nephews, Alexander; Andrew King of Allen, Texas; along with many cousins and second cousins. Vicki also leaves behind her best friend, Iris Goshay of Pittsburgh, who faithfully helped her to the end; as well as her many friends at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Duquesne. They all stood by Vicki during both good and trying times, and were there for her as true friends. Vicki will be remembered during a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 17 Cochran Ave., Duquesne, PA 15110. Arrangements were cared for by STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131, (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177).
