By Jeremy Sellew

By the Mon Valley Independent
The Gladiators (17-7) were knocked off by a strong Hampton squad, 69-40, Wednesday night as senior Michael Michalski eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career.
He led the Gladiators with 16 points and has been an offensive force for SA this season.
No. 2 Hampton (20-3) was led by 28 points from Liam Mignogna and 22 more from Peter Kramer as it limited South Allegheny to just nine points combined in the middle two quarters.
The Talbots will move on to play Avonworth in the WPIAL semifinals while South Allegheny will move on to the Class 4A consolation bracket in an effort to qualify for the PIAA playoffs.
Aliquippa 35, Clairton 34
Iyanna Wade nearly led the Bears (18-5) to another upset with 30 points, but Aliquippa (21-3) prevailed.
Carla Brown and Yaree Carter led No. 2-seed Aliquippa with 12 and 10 points in the low-scoring victory.
The No. 10 Bears will continue play in the state playoffs while Aliquippa will take on Serra Catholic Saturday for a trip to the Petersen Events Center for the Class 2A WPIAL Championship.
