Jerry L. Gillen – Belle Vernon

Jerry L. Gillen, 88, of Belle Vernon, passed away on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, in Jefferson Hospital. A son of the late Earl and Thelma Lucy Gillen, he was born in Uniontown on Aug. 22, 1935. Formerly of Uniontown, Jerry has been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1960. He had been employed by the former Bell Telephone, retiring in 1996. Jerry was a United States Army veteran, a member of the Communication Workers of America and will always be remembered for being a great father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Pollock Gillen; three daughters and sons in-law, Jane and Wayne Baxter of Snellville, Ga., Patricia and Ron Yuhasz of Holiday Park, Pa., and Barbara and Jeff Mitchell of West Newton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jeanine Gillen of Rostraver and Steve Gillen of Scott Township; a brother, James Gillen of Uniontown; 11 grandchildren, Jarryd Baxter, Brock Baxter, Lauren Rayburn, Jocelyn Fasenmyer, Jessica Timko, Jacob Yuhasz, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jeffrey Mitchell, Kate Gillen, Adam Gillen and Katie Brennan; and seven great-grandchildren, Joseph and Emily Fasenmyer, Johnny Timko, Jacob, Jackson, and Madison Yuhasz and Cade Teasdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Gillen; and three sisters, Rebecca D’Auria, Louise Robinson and Mary Ellen Rockwell. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Vann Walchock officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
