Donora to consider food truck ordinance

Donora Council will discuss several potential new ordinances when it meets for a work session Feb. 1, including one meant to govern how food trucks operate within the borough.
Councilman Fred Berestecky began asking about creating such an ordinance last year and earlier this month he asked council to take another look at the issue.
A draft version of the potential ordinance has been posted to the borough website, donoraboro.org.
The ordinance will apply to food trucks engaged in cooking, preparing and distributing food or beverages with or without charge in public spaces. The draft specifies that this isn’t a new law that would govern something like ice cream trucks, for example.
It defines a food truck as a vehicle or cart that can temporarily part on publicly designated streets or sidewalks and engage in the service, sale or distribution of food for service to the general public, directly from the vehicle.
If passed, it will be illegal for anyone to operate a food truck in Donora without getting a permit from the borough.
There will be a permit fee, and trucks will apply annually.
