Mary Ann Dobias Shemloff – Donora

Mary Ann Dobias Shemloff, 102, of Donora, entered into her eternal life Jan. 12, 2024. Born Oct. 24, 1921, in Dunbar Township, she was the daughter of George Dobias and Anna Gelatka Dobias Yatsko and the stepdaughter of Michael Yatsko. After graduating from Donora High School in 1939, she worked for the federal government in Philadelphia. While there, she married John Shemloff of Bentleyville on Dec. 18, 1944. After John’s discharge from the Army the following month, they moved to Michigan, where she worked as a secretary at Ford Motor Co. In the 1950s, they built and operated a small motel on beachfront property in Traverse City, Mich. They later retired to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and then returned to Donora in the 1990s. In addition to her parents and her husband, who died Dec. 14, 2003, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Dobias; sister, Eleanor Irene Dobias Walko; nephew, Michael Walko Jr.; and great-niece, Michele Walko. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sister, Ruth Ann Yatsko; nephew, Edward Dobias; niece, Marian Walko; great-niece, Mariel Walko; great-niece, Michelle Hung and daughter Karina; and great-nephew, Edward Dobias Jr. Catholic by faith, she was a member of the former St. Dominic Church, now St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Private viewing and prayers were held at ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, followed by Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora site.
