Monongahela council passed the 2024 city budget at Wednesday’s meeting, including an uptick in taxes for property owners.
Council raised the tax millage rate from 7.5 to 8.25 – the second-consecutive year in which it has increased, as it went from 7 to 7.5 in 2023.
Council met briefly Wednesday for the continuation of the Dec. 14 meeting, which allowed additional time to mull over the spending plan.
“Well, the reason we had to have the continuation from the council meeting is because none of us wanted to increase the taxes at all,” Councilwoman Sarah O’Brien said.
Mon City’s 2024 budget adds up to $3,513,375, as public affairs and finance costs take up a majority of it with a combined $2,713,811. It also allocates $202,649 for public safety, $508,665 for streets and improvement and $88,250 for parks and property.
The city’s estimated income for the upcoming year comes in at $3,516,360, which would give it a surplus of $2,985.
