The South Allegheny School Board voted to expand the district’s athletic program to include a middle school baseball team. The only costs related to the expansion will be transportation and umpires salaries.
The board also approved an expenditure of $4,572 for uniforms for the varsity baseball team. During Wednesday’s meeting, Superintendent David McDonald recognized several students for academic excellence. Recognized as middle school students of the month were:
Sixth grade: Lyla Bennett and Mason McClinton.
Seventh grade: Shanel Henry and Robert Page.
Eighth grade: Bailey DeCecco and Greyson Shaw.
The following Steel Valley Center for Career and Technical Education students were recognized as students of the month in their individual disciplines: Timothy Borkowski, welding; Amaya Gabriel, sports medicine and rehabilitation; Landen Medved, automotive technology; Kassidie Pape, public safety.
This year’s high school musical will be “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The board green lighted the production for March 15, 16, and 17, 2024, in the high school auditorium.
