By obits

Julian “Jules” A.  Kalan, 73, of Monongahela, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 14, 1950, in New Eagle, son of Julian E. and Carolyn A. Cislak Kidzinski. Jules was a proud graduate of Donora High School. He was employed at U.S. Steel Clairton Works for several years, and later retired from Mon Valley Hospital after 30-plus years of service in housekeeping, where he made many lifelong friends. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. Jules was happiest at home with his wife, Denise. He took pride in his home and lawn. He could often be found outside gardening or detailing cars — which he did professionally for many years. Jules loved spending time with his family, watching Pittsburgh sports, classic cars and a good cup of coffee. Jules also loved animals, especially his cats. He is survived by two nephews, Charles (Christy) Fritch and their children, Weston and Wyatt Fritch of Rostraver Township, and Philip (Marissa) Appolonia of Middle Island, N.Y.; niece, Jessica Fritch and fiancé Christopher Hefferan of Squirrel Hill; sister, Rita (Robert) Carden of the state of Indiana; brother-in-law, Gary Fritch of Charleroi; sister-in-law, Susan Appolonia of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Denise Appolonia Kalan, who died Sept. 6, 2018; sister, Mary Louise Kidzinski; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Miller) Moslick; sister-in-law, Joett Fritch; and a brother-in-law, Philip Appolonia. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela with the Rev. Thomas Kadlick as celebrant. ANYONE THAT IS PLANNING ON ATTENDING THE FUNERAL MASS IS ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Committal service and inurnment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Donora. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
