Charleroi Borough residents who have taken to social media recently to discuss crime and illegal activity are encouraged to go to the source before posting information online.
Specifically, council is encouraging them to start attending Charleroi Regional Police board meetings, where they can address Chief Chad Zelinsky directly, or pose questions to the board, which is comprised of representatives from Charleroi, North Charleroi and Speers.
During a voting meeting Wednesday, Councilman Larry Celaschi brought up the issue as a member of the public safety committee and vice chairman of the CRPD board.
Residents have posted several times over the past few weeks in Charleroi community online groups, asking if people heard gunshots in their neighborhoods.
Celaschi said it is important for the public to think about the information they are sharing on social media.
