Irene DeRose, of Monessen, formerly of Madison, Conn., passed away peacefully on Aug. 13, 2023, at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of Frank DeRose, who predeceased her in 2008. She was born to John and Mary Kardash on July 17, 1930. She was the last in a long line of Kardash children: John, Mary, Michael, Peter, Elizabeth (and her daughter Lois), Stephen, George, Joseph and Thomas. She leaves behind her loving son, Thomas (Angela) DeRose; and daughter, Tina (David) D’Amico; grandchildren, Carlisa (Jeremy) DeRose and Vincent (Cathy) DeRose; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jemma and Jayla; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A devout Catholic, she lived a full and beautiful life, filled with prayer, family and friends. Frank and Irene traveled to many corners of the globe from the far Pacific to the Middle East. She loved all things to do with the home, including cooking, cleaning, decorating and gardening. After closing her beauty shop in Monessen, she worked for many years at the Madison Bootery in Connecticut and was known and loved as the “shoe lady” for remembering every client’s size and special needs. She used her faith to light candles for anyone she met. She would pray for the sick, the needy and the deceased. In her time of need, she received prayers back, twofold, and from every faith. Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME, 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Crookston as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Irene’s Candle Ministry at St. George Church at https://gofund.me/f35d01b5.
