Joseph C. Barcelona Jr. – Dunlevy
Joseph C. Barcelona Jr., 92, of Dunlevy, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, in his home. Born on Jan. 23, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Sarra Barcelona. He was a graduate of Charleroi Area High School and California University of Pennsylvania, where he played football, and his notable achievement was playing in the 1951 Pythian Bowl. He went on to become a teacher and football coach at Charleroi, where he put over 20 linemen into Division I and small college scholarships and was a member of the coaching staff for the 1959 WPIAL championship team under Rab Currie. He also served as the home and school visitor for the district. He furthered his career as an assistant principal for the Washington School District from 1972 to 1974 and then the Ringgold School District from 1974 until his retirement in 1983. He then went on to work for Peter J. Schmidt Food Distribution and Thomas Tours, where he was a tour director for students and seniors. Mr. Barcelona is survived by his children, Sally Jo Barcelona of Speers, Susan Barcelona (Douglas) Dodge of Indio, Calif., and Joseph A. (Karen) Barcelona II of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Christopher Paul of Dunlevy, Ryan (Shelly) Rocca of North Charleroi and Ava Barcelona of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Tori and Eric Rocca; brother, Leonard Barcelona of Dunlevy; sister-in-law, Nancy Barcelona of Boca Raton, Fla.; and the mother of his children, Sally M. Barcelona of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Barcelona. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held starting at 5 p.m. Friday, July 28, at the Dunlevy Recreation Center, 4 Walnut St., Dunlevy. Professional services handled by CARL J.
