The Belle Vernon Legion baseball team has some work to do if it plans on reaching the playoffs out of the Fayette County American Legion Baseball League.
Belle Vernon could have used some more fireworks as Connellsville swept a continuation of a game that started last week and a full game Tuesday morning at the DiVirgilio Sports Complex in Rostraver.
Belle Vernon (6-9) sits tied for fourth place in the league standings with the top four teams moving on to the Region 6 tournament at Uniontown’s Hutchinson Park.
The first game originally started last week before rain dampened the contest after 3 1/2 innings. It was picked up Monday, but again was washed out after only an inning.
Finally, Tuesday things got rolling and in the end it was Connellsville claiming an 8-3 win behind four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning.
BV got on the board first in the fourth, when Mitchell Vuick scored on a successful double steal.
