Residents packed McKeesport council’s meeting room Wednesday to welcome three new police officers and two full-time firefighters to the city.
The addition of new employees come during a time of strong support for city first responders, as leaders have pushed to maintain full-staffing levels in its emergency response departments.
“Here in the City of McKeesport, many of us don’t take their work for granted,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said. “We have a fire department and police department that are second to none.”
The police department welcomed part-time Officer Henry Giles and full-time officers Ian Clinton-Layton and Hunter Scherf into its ranks.
In the fire department, the city congratulated firefighters Dennis Baker and Tyler Cuadrado, who were promoted from part-time to full-time positions.
The addition of the new police officers follows the heels of council hiring two other police officers earlier this year.
