Cal’s Pierce wins WPIAL gold

California’s Tanner Pierce brought home the Class 2A gold medal in the shot put from the WPIAL Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Slippery Rock University.
Pierce set a personal best with a throw of 50-feet, 7-inches.
With the gold medal, Pierce qualified for the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University.
Also in 2A, Frazier’s Sydney Polkabla finished eighth in the triple jump and Gabby McGavitt finished 11th in the javelin.
South Allegheny’s Eric Wehrer finished third in the 2A ranks. His throw measured 153-feet, 5-inches.
In Class 3A, Ringgold’s Ryan Pajak was the WPIAL runner- up in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:13.16, just under four seconds behind Butler’s Drew Griffith. He’ll run next week in the PIAA Championships.
