One step forward, two steps back.
After making a recommendation to fill a full-time position for a street foreman, Charleroi Borough Council will have to re-advertise for the job.
During an agenda meeting last week, Councilman Larry Celaschi, who is one of two members on the committee along with Joe Smith, made a recommendation for council to hire William L. Scythe, pending a criminal background check.
Council was expected to formally hire Scythe during Wednesday’s voting meeting, but Scythe rescinded his application.
Councilman Paul Pivovarnik asked what happened.
“Last Wednesday, the personnel committee did make a recommendation and in the course of this week, it came to our attention that the gentleman was provided a counter offer from his current employer, which he felt inclined to accept,” Borough Manager Matt Staniszewski explained.
