Charles A. “Coach Chuck” Urbanowicz, 87, of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, in Jefferson Regional Hospital. He was born in North Charle- roi on March 1, 1936. Chuck had served as president and secretary of the Monessen Volunteer Fire Department and Relief Association until he achieved his life membership. “Coach Chuck” had served the youth as a football coach for 56 years. Chuck had also been a member of the Mon Valley Refuse Disposal Authority. Chuck served his country for eight years in the Army National Guard during the Cuban Crisis. He retired from the Peoples Natural Gas Company in 1993 after 57 years of service. Chuck married the former Dorothy Doty and they had been married for 55 years. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Urbanowicz; brother in law, Ronald Doty; niece, Melissa and husband Bryan Miesowitz; great-niece and great-nephew, Kennedy and Conner Miesowitz; special nephew, Brian and wife Christina Doty; and special great-nieces and great-nephews, Charlotte, Reagan, Edward and William Doty. Also surviving is a cousin, Pricilla and husband Angelo Dorazio. Preceding him in death were his mother, Florence Urbanowicz; maternal grandparents, Mae and Arthur McCready; special aunt and uncle, James and Hazel Coulter; in-laws, Dorothy and Leonard Doty; and brother-in-law, Duane Doty. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
