Monessen fell behind early and couldn’t rally to pull off a come-from-behind win in a game with early playoff implications.
The Greyhounds committed nine errors to help visiting Leechburg come away with an 11-5 victory in Section 3-1A action Wednesday.
In danger of falling via the 10-run rule, the Hounds (2-3, 2-2) scored a pair of runs in the sixth.
Kendra Jones led off with a single and Joey Hurst lined one sharply back off of Blue Devils’ pitcher Anna Cibik for an infield hit. Jaz’mein Parker followed with a single to center on an 0-1 pitch to load the bases.
Deztyni Hall grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Jones.
Peighton Minkus grounded out to score Hurst and make it 10-2.
After the Blue Devils (2-5, 2-1) added another run in the top of the seventh, the Greyhounds did their best to make things interesting.
