Lawmakers divided on Shapiro’s death penalty stance

Gov. Josh Shapiro called on state lawmakers to repeal the death penalty Thursday and said he will continue former Gov. Tom Wolf’s effective moratorium on executions. “Today, I am respectfully calling on the General Assembly to work with me to abolish the death penalty once and for all here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said in a news conference in Philadelphia.
