John ‘Bud’ Martinet McGinley – Clearwater Beach, Fla., formerly of Charleroi and Belle Vernon
John “Bud” Martinet McGinley, 97, of Clearwater Beach, Fla., formerly of Charleroi and Belle Vernon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. He was born in Charleroi on Nov. 9, 1925, son of the late C. Howard “Muggsy” McGinley and the late Mathilda Martinet McGinley. Bud graduated from Charleroi High School in 1943. Always a fervent believer in hard work, Bud had many jobs during his school years, including working in the post office, coal mines, Corning Glass factory and work as a milk truck driver, paper boy and pin-boy at the Charleroi Elks Club (where he was working when he learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor). He was also the last surviving person who worked at the family business, The Martinet Bakery, which was founded by his grandparents, John C. and Virginia Martinet in Charleroi in the early 1900s. Bud was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India Theater from 1944 to 1946. In 1949, he married his beloved wife of 63 years, the late Elizabeth Harosky McGinley. Bud attended Kent State University, where he played varsity football and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After college, Bud began his professional career as a salesman with ABCO Chemical Inc., eventually becoming its top salesman. He left ABCO in 1960 to start his own company, McGinley Maintenance Inc., which continues today, operating in five states. Bud was also very active in the community. He served on the board of directors of the Charleroi Quarterback Club, the Charleroi Booster Club, Building Service Contractors Association International and First Federal Bank of Monessen (now Community Bank), where he served for 30 years, including six years as chairman. In the 1960s, he also worked as a radio broadcast spotter for certain Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers football games. Bud was also a proud and long-standing member of the Charleroi Italian Club, Charleroi Elks Club, Mon Valley Country Club (where he was still playing golf at age 95), the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Mon Valley Serra Club. In addition to his parents and his wife, Bud was preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Michael McGinley; an infant daughter; and his sister, Marcia McGinley Glenn. Surviving to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his daughter, Marcia McGinley of Florida; four sons, Neil McGinley of Georgia, Patrick (Gail) McGinley of Maryland, Mark (Patty) McGinley of Monongahela and James McGinley of White Oak; a daughter-in-law, Joan McGinley of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren, Tim (Ammie) McGinley, Megan (Darrell) Morgan, Molly McGinley, Beth McGinley, Brian McGinley, Katie (Mike) Cerra, Laura (Roy) Bailey, Kevin McGinley, Chris (Jessica) McGinley and Greg McGinley; and seven great-grandchildren, Patrick and Libby McGinley, Max and Samantha Morgan, Jack and June Bailey and Cole Cerra. Bud will also be dearly missed by all those who loved him at Clelian Heights School in Greensburg, McGinley Maintenance Inc., the Bocce Club, the Palm Pavilion and Frenchy’s on Clearwater Beach, the entire Martinet family, and many other family and friends throughout the Mon Valley, Clearwater Beach, Donegal, Ireland, and Anncey, France, areas. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Charleroi Campus, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, with the Rev.
