Romaine Joseph Trevellyn Howell Sr., 76, was called home on Jan. 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Romaine was born on Oct. 27, 1946, in Daisytown, to the late Robert Lee Howell Sr. and Katelea Hoggans Howell. Romaine was one of many children and is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Howell Sr. (Adrian) and Joe Howell. He was preceded in death by siblings, Reginald Howell, Robert Lee Jr. Howell, Edward Howell, Frank Howell, Cornell Collins, Linda Owens and Katelea Howell. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 52 years, Ruam Howell; his devoted children, Anthony Martin, Denitra Howell Taylor (Samuel), Romaine Joseph Trevellyn Howell Jr., (Isabel), Christopher Lee Howell, Ryan Joseph Howell (Danielle) and Thassanee Basko (Sean); adoring grandchildren, Kayla Taylor, Jaliah Howell, Romaine Howell III, Callista Ternitsky, Kass Taylor, Anthony Howell, Kali Ternitsky, Adayja Howell, Ava Ternitsky, A’yona Price, Kierra Howell, Nariah Howell, Cameron Howell; one great-grandchild, Avery Howell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Over the span of his life, he was a jack of many trades, some of which included being a constable, a chief of police, a fuel specialist in the United States Air Force, radio host, teacher, coach, coal miner, driving instructor, trustee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, American Legion Post 377 member and referee, but his most treasured title was father. Romaine was a standout athlete, receiving many awards and accolades throughout his athletic career at California Area High School. He completed his bachelor’s degree in teaching at California University of Pennsylvania. While in the Air Force, Romaine received a National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, an Air Force Good Conduct Medal and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 46 Zion Road, Daisytown, PA 15427 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, with service to follow.
