While the dates of the special elections aren’t set in stone, the Republican and Democratic committees in Allegheny County on Saturday chose nominees to run in the Mon Valley’s 34th and 35th state House districts.
Whoever wins the special elections will fill the Legislative seats left vacant by Democrats Austin Davis of McKeesport, who is now Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor-elect, and Summer Lee of North Braddock, who will soon be sworn in as a United States congresswoman.
The party committees have also chosen nominees to fill the seat left vacant by the late Anthony DeLuca of Verona, who — after a battle with cancer — passed away prior to the November General Election, which he won.
Democrat Josh Shapiro and Davis won in November for the seats of governor and lieutenant governor, respectively. But, Davis also successfully ran for re-election to the 35th District seat.
The Allegheny County Democratic Committee announced via social media Matthew Gergely of McKeesport’s Haler Heights neighborhood has received the Democratic nod.
