By obits

On Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, James N. “Jim” Yelanich Sr., of Charleroi, was called to be with the Lord. He was born in Fayette City, on May 30, 1947. Jim served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a life member (35+ years) of the Lock No. 4 Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as president for much of that time. Jim was a member of the St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Charleroi.  His other passion included his love for the Pittsburgh sports teams, but he was most proud to be a part of the Steeler Nation. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Hall Yelanich from Toledo, Ohio. Two daughters, Betty (Jesse) Hyatt of Monessen, and Vicki (Ian) Suomela of Whitehall; two sons, Jim Jr. (Melissa) Yelanich of San Diego, Calif., and Nick (Suelinda) Yelanich, of Wheeling, W.Va. His pride and joy were his six amazing grandchildren, Andrew Yelanich of Chino, Calif., Amanda (Brennan) Dipiazza of Monongahela, Brandon Horan of Pittsburgh, Ian Suomela Jr., of Whitehall and Benjamin and Mary Yelanich of San Diego, Calif.;  two surviving sisters, Dorothea Rocca of Florida and Anne Jablonski of Belle Vernon. He also had numerous nieces and nephews as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas (Mickey) Yelanich and Emma (Usher) Yelanich of Fayette City; and one sister, Michaela Blatnik of Charleroi. Gone but not forgotten – we love you. There is no visitation. A private service and burial will be held with immediate family at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.
