Margaret J. Bergstedt, 98, of Charleroi, went to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, with her loving and caring sons at her side. Born on Dec. 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Luisa Cavelli Mastronicola. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and was a member of the Holy Name Society at the former Mother of Sorrows Church. She was involved in the preparation of many church dinners and other events and volunteered as a member of the auxiliary at Mon Valley Hospital. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. Margaret is survived by her sons, Russell E. Bergstedt Jr. and wife Susan (Nipaver) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Richard P. Bergstedt and wife Rosemarie (Myers) of Charleroi; grandsons, Russell E. Bergstedt III and wife Kirstin and their children, Kailey Rose, Annaliese and Cecilia, of Plano, Texas, and Richard P. Bergstedt Jr. of Beaufort, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Russell E. Bergstedt; brothers, Frank Caputo and Luke Mastronicola; and sisters, Faustina “Fell” Skomsky, Nathalia “Nell” Hurley and Carmalene “Carm” Osborne. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends will be received from 9:15 to 9:55 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. and interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Those unable to attend Mass may celebrate via the online livestream at www.saintandrewmidmon.org. Arrangements are entrusted to CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Online condolences may be sent to www.spallinofuneralhome.com.
