William Thomas Bittle – Elizabeth Township

William Thomas Bittle, 86, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. He was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Holland, Va., and was the son of the late Clarence Lee and Sallie Mae Newsome Bittle. He was the husband of the late Loretta Lewis Bittle, who passed away Feb. 20, 2017. They were married Dec. 31, 1966. He was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish St. Michael Church, VFW Post 7632 in Blaine Hill, Pleasant Hills American Legion and was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. William served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For his service, he received the Order of the Purple Heart twice, the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. William worked many years in office machine sales and the service business. He is survived by his son, Michael W. Bittle of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Lee Ann (David) Szuhoza of Carroll Township; sisters, Mary Virginia Moore of Chesapeake, Va., and Mildred Lee Edwards of Suffolk, Va.; brother-in-law, Paul Edwards of Suffolk, Va.; nieces, nephews and grand dogs, Retta and Stella. He was preceded in death by his sister, Leslie Paige Pope; and grand dog, Athena. There is no visitation. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish St. Michael Church, Elizabeth Township. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Corpus Christi St. Mary’s German Cemetery in McKeesport. Arrangements are by GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., Boston, Elizabeth Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans at 1000 Liberty Ave., #1606, Pittsburgh PA 15222; or call 412-395-6241.
