The Yough football program may be at a low point in its history, but if anyone knows about the success the Cougars are capable of, it’s newly hired head coach and Yough alumnus Ben Hoffer.
A former running back who ran for more than 3,000 yards and won three conference championships, Hoffer wanted the role of trying to restore the glory of his alma mater.
He begins his first head coaching position after spending the last nine years as an assistant with East Allegheny, where he helped the Wildcats make six straight WPIAL playoff appearances, with four in Class 2A and the last two coming in Class 3A.
Hoffer sets his eyes on a new challenge, a program that hasn’t made a playoff appearance since 2013 and is coming off a one-win season. Hoffer sees no better opportunity than trying to re-establish his old program.
