Cody James Bennett – Monongahela

Cody James Bennett, 29, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was born Jan. 29, 1993, in Monongahela, the son of Marci Doty-Fitterer and husband, Jeffrey of Elrama, and Jason Bennett of New Eagle. Cody was a 2012 graduate of Ringgold High School and currently employed at Valley Pool and Spa in Belle Vernon. Cody was happiest outdoors; he enjoyed boating, camping and hiking. He also loved to cook. He is best described in a quote from his family, “his heart was as big as himself.” One moment… just one moment can change everything. Cody Bennett was known for his unique and infectious laugh. It is one of the main memories that people brought up about him. Cody was always lending a hand and taking care of the people around him. His proudest moments were knowing that he helped and made a difference. He was the neighborhood handyman, car detailer and landscaper. He helped out so much that he was “adopted” as a grandson by his neighbors, Marsha and Mary Ann. He wore that as a badge of honor, and we are forever grateful for the love and respect shown to Cody. His Gram, who was fighting cancer, would ask for her feet to be rubbed. As tired as he was after work, he would sit down and rub her feet with great pride. He also was the young man who, when his Gram could no longer walk, would carry her up and down the steps, just so she could still be able to take her rides she enjoyed so much. Cody was the one to always worry and check in on everyone. Without fail, if his Mom was going anywhere and was due home, especially if a really bad storm was happening, he would be on the phone making sure she was home and safe. His brother and sister were more than just his siblings, they were each other’s best friends and confidantes and would protect each other without fail. “There is no other love like the love for a brother. There’s no other love like love from a brother.” The Three Musketeers. His great big teddy bear hugs will be missed so much. He would wrap those big arms around you, and you would feel so safe. This list of moments does not do him justice… There is so much more to Cody than what is on this page, and definitely so much more than what happened leading to his death. Albeit not perfect, Cody’s family and friends know the true Cody and will forever cherish his memory and, as long as they live, will make sure he is remembered as the loving, beautiful, kind son, grandson, nephew, uncle, brother and best friend he was. Our world has truly lost a one-of-a-kind, loving soul. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Ariana Bennett of Monongahela; brother, Collin Brunell, and his father, Cody’s honorary stepfather, Jeffery Brunell, both of New Eagle; maternal grandfather, David Doty of Monongahela; paternal grandmother, Sandy Race Bennett of New Eagle; uncles, David and wife Annie Doty of Monongahela, Chris Bennett of Charleroi, and Shaun Bennett of Monongahela; his cousin who was like a brother, David Arthur Doty of Philadelphia; his precious niece, Meilani Lewis, who meant everything to him. The love Cody had for her was unmatched and they did everything together; several great aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. He also leaves behind his three best friends, Scott Federer, Christian Federer and Nick Stock. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Carol Davis Doty. A Celebration of Life for Cody will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
