Joyce A. Major, 80, of Donora, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Jefferson Hospital. She was born in Arnold City, Pa., on Feb. 2, 1942, daughter of the late Paul and the late Edith Hawk Hegedus. Joyce enjoyed preparing homemade meals to share with the elderly, friends or the less fortunate. As a woman of faith, she was passionate in contributing to various organizations to help those in need and to support the church. Joyce was a fun-loving individual who loved to laugh and dance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Major, on Nov. 14, 2021; her son, Craig Amatangelo; and three sisters, Shirley Stonfer, Pauline Campaneo and Mary Lou Mazza. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carrie (Howard) Yhoe of Donora; a granddaughter, Erica; a sister, Carol Bridgman of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at noon at the Donora Campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish.
