Dennis P. Craig – State College, formerly of Monongahela
Dennis P. Craig, 71, of State College, formerly of Monongahela, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, in the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. He was born July 17, 1950, in New Eagle, a son of Paul and Helen Podroskey Craig. Denny grew up in Monongahela and graduated in 1968 from Mon Valley Catholic High School and in 1972 from Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and obtained the rank of 2nd lieutenant. While residing in State College, Denny was employed by Penn State University as a computer programmer/systems analyst for 35 years before retiring in 2014. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College, where he enjoyed being a handbell ringer for several years in the handbell choir. Denny was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4678 and volunteered his time for the Special Olympics at the Schlow Centre Region Library, Saint Vincent de Paul and Meals on Wheel. He loved family gatherings, walking, bicycling, golfing, oldies music and playing the piano. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Sandy Craig of New Eagle; two nephews, Marty Matko Jr. and wife Sarah of Pittsburgh, Matthew Matko and wife Gina of Westlake, Ohio; three great-nieces, Ariah, Amelia and Eliana Matko; aunt, Dorothy Podroskey of Monongahela; and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Craig who died Aug. 16, 1968. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, with the Rev. Douglas Boyd, cherished cousin of Denny’s, as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to your local St. Vincent de Paul or Meals on Wheels. The family has requested that masks be worn when visiting the funeral home.
