Questions surround state of garbage service in Monessen

The City of Monessen hasn’t acted to approve a contract with the lowest bidder on the garbage contract that is set to expire tonight. Monessen council held a bid opening for the garbage contract in November, but hasn’t acted to approve County Hauling of Belle Vernon as the low bidder. A motion on today’s special meeting agenda talks about approving just the first reading of an ordinance that amends the intergovernmental cooperation agreement act between the city and the Mon Valley Refuse Authority, which acts as liaison between contractors and various Mid-Mon Valley municipalities.
