Sara Ann ‘Sally’ Smedley – formerly of Rostraver Township
Sara Ann “Sally’’ Smedley, 93, formerly of Rostraver Township, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Donora on Feb. 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Thelma Rupert Jones. Sally worked as a comptometer for U.S. Steel and then as a bank teller. She was a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Donora and was currently a member of The Hills Church in South Park. Sally loved playing the 500 bid card game and enjoyed her card club of 58-plus years. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star. Music was one of Sally’s passions. Not only did she play the piano, but she sang in the church choir and taught her children many songs to sing when they would be driving in the car. She is survived by her children, Thomas J. (Diana) Smedley of Bethel Park, Judy A. (John) Richter of Zelienople, Joy E. O’Bryon of South Park and Hugh W. (Melanie) Smedley of Ruffs Dale; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, William C. Jones of Mechanicsville, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Thomas Russell Smedley; sister and her husband, Janie S. (John) Caldwell; sister-in-law, Diane Jones; and brothers-in-law and their wives, Hugh A. (Florence) Smedley and Delmar R. (Louise) Smedley. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, with Pastor Tom Fodi officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
