A new member will be inducted into the Charleroi Boys Soccer Hall of Fame tonight at Myron Pottios Stadium.
Brian Pendo, a 1999 graduate, will become the 54th member of the hall during the 33rd induction when the Cougars face California tonight.
Pendo finished his career at Charleroi as a three-year letterman with 32 goals and 14 assists, setting a then-school record with 29 goals in his senior season. He earned all-section honors that same season playing under head coach Tom Villella.
Pendo began his soccer career playing in Fallowfield Township’s in-house league until he was six, then he moved to the Dunlevy Redbirds organization.
He was a mainstay with the Redbirds for 12 seasons, playing from his U7 season through U19.
In all, he enjoyed playing 15 years of organized soccer.
“Brian’s speed and elusiveness are the reasons he did what he did on the soccer field,” Villella said. “He was a big reason why the Cougars won back-to-back section titles.”
After his playing days, Pendo moved to the sidelines as a coach in 2014.
He started coaching the Charleroi U6, beginning a path that has led him to coaching various levels. Currently, he coaches the Charleroi U14 team, which is currently unbeaten.
He also maintains an administrative role with the Charleroi Youth Soccer Association and now serves as the organization’s president.
Pendo, a technician with Comcast, resides in Charleroi with his wife, Amanda (Ferrara) and their two boys, Blake (12) and Tanner (7).
Tonight’s induction ceremony will take place at halftime.
