Car cruise set for today at Havencrest
Havencrest Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Carroll Township will host a community car cruise from 1 to 4:30 p.m. today.
The innovative program, the second such event hosted by the skilled nursing home, invites anyone in the community with a classic car to come and show off their vintage auto.
The event, to be held at Havencrest Rehab, 1277 Country Club Road will feature music by DJ Brandon and refreshments — including burgers, hot dogs, chips and soda — available to purchase.
Dash plaques will be distributed to the first 40 registered vehicles. A $5 donation is required from owners of displayed vehicles to receive a dash plaque and be eligible for some of the prizes. Tickets for other basket prizes will be sold separately. Dustfree grass and asphalt parking is available.
Havencrest Rehab Administrator Jennifer Graff expects a large turnout.
“We held a Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 21 and it was very well attended,” she said. “We served more than 75 kids and family members.”
In addition to features including music and refreshments, that program contained innovative elements as well. Not only were school supplies available, but free haircuts were also offered by Smart Clips and other local barbers.
“Events such as these are wonderful for both the community and our residents,” Graff added. “As part of our mission to be a good community neighbor, our facility will continue to sponsor community events throughout the year to engage with neighbors and residents in Monongahela and the surrounding communities. The facility is developing a fall festival for mid-October, which will include a Halloween component.”

It was incorrectly stated in Friday’s Valley Grapevine that the event was canceled. The MVI apologizes for the error.
