Raymond ‘Slats’ E. Weigand Jr. – Liberty Borough

Raymond “Slats” E. Weigand Jr., age 100, of Liberty Borough, died Oct. 4, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1921, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Raymond E. Weigand Sr. and Anne Weller Weigand and husband of the late Christine Weigand. Raymond was a World War II Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Alabama, working his way through the ranks to gunner’s mate second class and he always looked forward to reunions with veterans from his ship. He was awarded the Ushakov Medal from the Russian government due to having served during Allied missions in the Arctic Circle in the early 1940s. Raymond worked as a dairyman with Menzie Dairy, then Turner Dairy Farm. He was the leader of Boy Scout Troop 53 for 35 years and enjoyed all scouting activities and traveling with the Scouts to Europe. He was a member of Teamsters Local 205. He loved time spent with his grandchildren and smoking cigars. Raymond is survived by children, Ted (Michelle) Provlis, James (Jane) Weigand, John (Terri) Weigand and Margaret Weigand; grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Peyton, Larissa (Matt) Ruffing, Jim (Sarah) Weigand and Nicholas Weigand; great-grandchildren, Cassie, Sarah, River and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Weigand; and sisters, Martha Dandar and Jane Thomas. Family and friends will be received at JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, in the funeral home chapel.
