Joseph Valentine Sala, 91, of Donora, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Born in New Eagle, on Feb. 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Joseph and Zofia Mirocha Sala. Joe was the last surviving member of his family of 11 children. Joe transitioned a high school job into a lifetime of self-employment as a floor and wall covering installation specialist. Weekends were family time. Always planning simple adventures, the weekends were for long rides to someplace new, ice cream, picnics, fishing, hunting, boating and whatever might just be family fun. Joe was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora, had served as an usher and was active in the First Friday Adoration. He was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge, St. Mary Lodge, the Victory Hill Gun Club, the Croatian Club Bowling Team and the Homebuilders Association. Joe and Bernice first met at a polka dance, and over their many years, continued to enjoy dances. The regulars became close family friends and for many years grouped together as the Frank Kalik Fun Club. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bernice Wojnar Sala; daughters, Carol (John) Puskarich of Mooresville, N.C. and Debra (Mark) Dziak of Perryopolis; sons, Charles (Claudia) Sala of Dormont and Dr. Kenneth Sala of McMurray; 12 grandchildren, Nicole Puskarich Newcombe, John Brandon Puskarich, Tom Puskarich, Chad Dziak, Mike Dziak, Jason Dziak, Rachel Sala Richard, Dr. Steve Sala, Tracy Rossetti Delvaux, Craig Rossetti, Joe Sala and Kelly Sala Pisarcik; 15 great-grandchildren, Lia Newcombe, Audrey Newcombe, James Puskarich, Samuel Puskarich, Lucy Puskarich, Kate Dziak, Arlo Dziak, Julian Nahas, Sienna Sala, Amara Sala, Lydia Delvaux John Delvaux, Matthew Delvaux, Lauren Rossetti and Madelyn Rossetti. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private visitation will be held in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com. The family would like to welcome all family and friends to join them via live stream at www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com for a funeral Mass starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, with the Rev. Kevin Dominik presiding. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
