By obits

Kay Collins Pahel passed away peacefully at her home in Norwalk, Calif., on July 6, 2021, at the tender age of 84. A long- time area resident, Kay’s, aka “Grandma Kay, Mam, Babe, Boo,” energy and enthusiasm for those blessed to meet and spend time with her will be missed by many. Kay was born on Feb. 26, 1937, to Albert and Rose McCahill Collins of Victory Hill, Monongahela. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Herbert; her daughter, Kathy Hjelmeseth (Ron); and sons, Herb, Greg (Joniece) and Brian (Tammy); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Glenn Collins (Joyce); and sister, Ida Totaro (Earl Jordan); as well as many nieces and nephews; and her pup, Trixie. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her sister, Lois Powala; brother, Albert Collins III ; and granddaughter, Mary F. Pahel. Kay married the love of her life after meeting on a bus ride from Pittsburgh to Chicago, where she worked for Northwest Airlines. Herbert gave great chase, and after six months, they were married in 1957. They decided to start a new life together and raise a family in California, where they’ve been since 1958. Kay was a dedicated sports fan, cheering on her Dodgers through thick and thin. She enjoyed chatting with anyone who stopped by, making quick friends with everyone from the mailman to her caretakers. She will be remembered for her loving, friendly nature and for always being interested in others.
