Trojans anchored by eight seniors

Resiliency. It’s a word that is frequently used to describe a good volleyball team. It’s also been used to describe a lot of high school teams following the unique, COVID-19 season a year ago.
Seventh-year volleyball coach Rene Pascoe used the word resiliency a lot when describing the makeup of her program and the solid effort the squad had last fall.
“It was such a weird season in 2020 and I give a lot of credit to our girls for sticking it out,” Pascoe said. “They stayed really positive and work together on and off the court. They just went with the punches and really let their play on the court speak for itself.”
The Trojans posted a 9-3 record in Section 2-A, finished second in the section behind Fort Cherry and picked up a hard-fought first round victory over Western Beaver before falling to eventual WPIAL champion and PIAA semifinalist Bishop Canevin in the quarterfinals.
After only making the playoffs twice between 2005-2015, Cal has qualified for the postseason in four of the last five seasons. And the Trojans have not only made it to the playoffs, but they have won there in that five-year stretch by grabbing a 4-5 record in the postseason.
“I give all the credit to the players, past and present, for this turnaround,” Pascoe stated. “They have developed excellent work ethic and is building upon our strong foundation here. They have put the time and the commitment not just in the season, but also in the offseason with our open gyms and summer leagues. We want to continue to build and be one of those successful programs every year.”
