James E. Bierbower died Aug. 13, 2021, following a brief illness. Jim was the son of the late Robert E. and Reba Blaney Bierbower. Born in Uniontown and a graduate of Uniontown High School, he was a former resident of Charleroi and Westerville, Ohio. He most recently resided in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. A proud veteran of the Korean War, Jim served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Following an honorable discharge and return to civilian life, he worked for AT&T, Bell Atlantic and Verizon, retiring as manager of network operations after more than 40 years of service to the telecommunications industry. He then began an extended second career as the Carroll Township zoning officer. Jim was a lifelong member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and a former president of the Charleroi Kiwanis. A devout Christian, he served as a church elder and deacon among other roles. An avid golfer in his youth, he enjoyed many outdoor recreation activities and sports; he was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers and Pirates and, in more recent years, regularly cheered on the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jim was predeceased by his devoted and beloved wife of over 50 years, Norma Jean Bierbower. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James N. and Elizabeth D. Bierbower of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; his sister, Barbara Bierer of Bedford, Va.; his grandson, Brad and his wife Alissa and great-grandson Grant, all of Aurora, Colo.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC. Memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 609 Chess St., Monongahela, PA 15063, in memory of James E. Bierbower.
