McKeesport Housing Authority Deputy Executive Director Diane Raible is putting an emphasis on attracting seniors to McKeesport Towers, a senior living high-rise apartment building.
McKeesport Towers, located close to at least one Port Authority bus stop and a Heritage Community Transport stop, a grocery store, a dollar store, a pharmacy and a few restaurants, is on Sixth Street. Sitting atop a hill, the high rise seems to be the highest building in the city — meaning it comes with great views.
Raible said there are a number of vacancies for seniors at McKeesport Towers, where there are a total of 192 apartments. Eighteen of the Towers apartments are fully handicap accessible, Raible said.
She said seniors looking to make a move, either out of their home or from another community, can find a comfortable place to live that won’t leave their bank account drained.
“It’s affordable,” she said.
The cost of rent is designed to only be a fraction of the senior citizen’s income.
“If they have a lot of medical expenses or disability expenses, that can help further reduce their rental obligation,” Raible said. “All the utilities are included.”
And there’s good news for lovers of four-legged friends. Raible, who is known in the McKeesport area for being a dog lover and working to rescue them, said Towers tenants are allowed to bring their pets.
Raible said many Towers residents enjoy the fun activities.
“We have a number of agencies coming in that do things,” she said. “Community Life has some people in here.”
